NeedSec just posted on YouTube a video illustrating how to use a RTL-SDR to decode Flex 1600 pager traffic using PDW, VB-Cable and SDR#. It is always surprising there is still pager traffic as when is the last time you can remember seeing someone with a pager in public. We’ve shared videos showing this sort of thing before, but NeedSec gives a great overview of what you need to do to accomplish successful decoding of Flex-1600.
This is decoding P25 with DSD and SDR#. It isn’t the greatest, but I guess it’s a work in progress. You need a very strong signal, and just the correct audio levels and settings. Most of the video is P25 bits and pieces. My audio is not clipping, it’s simply a problem I cannot figure out with stereo mix. – Source
This is decoding P25 with DSD and SDR#.You need a very strong signal, and just the correct audio levels and settings. This is video number TWO where I got about a 98% decode. I had about 71% inlevel and it started working great. Please don’t mind the high pitched crackle in the audio, it is a problem with my sound card and NOT an artifact in the decode itself. When decoded there is nice clean audio (well, as clean as you can get with the horrible codec motorola uses!). sdrsharp.com – Source
The 2m ham band with the ezcap RTLSDR stick and SDR# ( SDRSharp ). First few minutes are a repeater, next some APRS digital, and then a beacon from K2DLL in Upstate, NY. – Source
